Join the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town on Good Friday 7 April and Easter Sunday 9 April 2023 as we present Handel’s Messiah.
Handel’s Messiah, composed 282 years ago has stood the test of time. As one of the most frequently performed oratorios of all time, this much beloved work is cherished across the world.
The Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town has performed Messiah every Easter since 1967, except when Covid kept us from the stage. It is a staple and firm favourite on the Cape Town musical calendar.
Perhaps best remembered for its exuberant “Hallelujah” chorus, this English oratorio sets liturgical texts that celebrate the prophecy, birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ to glorious Baroque orchestration.
Even if you are not religious, the music and voices raised in lyrical celebration are wonderful to hear. The Easter weekend is the perfect occasion to experience Handel’s Messiah.
